I came into January all full of enthusiasm for blogging and promising myself that I was going to get back into writing proper reviews, and putting something up at least once a week.
I should have known that I was doomed to failure when I only got round to putting up my first post of the year on the 9th of January. But this time, unlike every other time that I have had a blogging slump, I actually have a pretty good excuse! Yayy!
As some of you know, I work as a freelance translator*, and something that people say about working freelance is that it gets to be a bit of a feast or famine situation - either you are completely inundated with work, or you have absolutely nothing going on. I knew that I had a fairly large job coming in around the 13th, but it turned out to be larger than anyone anticipated, and I have had another job come in on top of that, so I have been busy busy busy! I've been working over the weekends since it came in, and by the time everything is handed in I will have worked for about 3 weeks without any proper days off (luckily I have been able to manage things so that I have gone out and done some fun things as well, otherwise I would actually be climbing the walls right now).
Anyway, this is a long-winded way of saying that I don't think I am going to get round to writing any proper reviews this month, but that's okay because so far I haven't read anything that has inspired me to write anything anyway. I will do a round up post for January though, so hopefully everything that I read will end up on here one way or another.

Long time no blog
Yet again I have failed at updating this anywhere near
regularly. To be fair though, I have had an eventful 2014 so far (not in a good
way at all), and have good excuses for the lack of updates, which I will not go into here, but let's just say that so far, 2014 isn't that great. I have been getting a fair amount of reading done though, yayy!
To catch up, I’m going to do some mini review posts and some
proper reviews*, so look forward to opinions about the following books:
Beloved
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter
Dark Places
Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Eleanor and Park
Fahrenheit 451
Maine
Maus
More Than This
Persepolis
Siege and Storm
Smoke and Mirrors
Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers
The Crane Wife
The Notable Brain of Maximilian Ponder
The Sense of an Ending
Tiny Beautiful Things
World War Z
Note: The inclusion of a book on the list above is not a guarantee that I will write anything about it. So is the list pointless? Yes.
But hopefully writing it will motivate me to actually write some posts!
*As proper as anything gets on here, anyway.

I'm baaack!! (Um, if you noticed that I was gone)
It has definitely been too long since I posted anything on
here…
What happened?! I hear you cry…
Well… my parents came to visit me for two weeks, and then I
got busy at work, and to be honest coming home and staring at the computer
screen writing more stuff just didn't seem that appealing.
I have been reading in that time though! Obviously! Although
not quite as much as I would have liked.
So, coming up...
1Q84 – Murakami Haruki (Yup, I finished it! Yay! Also boo
because now it’s over) (Also, I definitely did not originally have it down as 1Q83. Nope!)
Pandemonium – Lauren Oliver
Drop Dead Healthy – A. J. Jacobs
The Know-It-All – A. J. Jacobs (So you can maybe guess how much I liked Drop Dead Healthy, hehe)
The Last Girlfriend on Earth – Simon Rich
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making – Catherynne M. Valente
Kūchū Buranko (Flying Trapeze) - Hideo Okuda
The excitement is almost too much, isn't it?!
